Aimi & Luqman – PJ by SN

Thank Aimi & Luqman for being so “sukan” that day. I had so much fun shooting this event as they both just being natural. Just like themselves without the wedding outfit. Congratulations for both of them. Hope you enjoy the pictures so much. I’m still in the mid of finding my color, this is what I’ve got in the middle of the experiments. Some people may think that a photographs shouldn’t be edited. They mustn’t be a photographer from the film era. If they were photographers who did darkroom process for black and white and color pictures, they definitely know that what you shoot on the film will not turn-up to be prints if you don’t do all these “adjustment” process during the projection process at the enlarger. Same goes to digital photographers, they should or for me, they must touch their pictures (but not extremely…unless they are fine arts photogs) if they are a PHOTOGRAPHER 😉

Enjoice!

Barbara Prinz

It’s a shooting season now. I’ve to go through thousands of images every week and now, I feature some images I took this month and some of it I took last month. This time around, Barbara Prinz from Germany. I shoot for her personal portraiture in Penang. If I’m in Penang, I will take hundred of years to finally out of idea where to shoot. No wonder Penang has been gazetted as one of the world heritage .

For those who feel why my picture styles of editing is suddenly changed, don’t worry…as for now, I’m experimenting more and more editing technique until I really get my own signature. What you see now is just a progress of that experiments curve. Ok guys, enjoy the pictures!

Lynn & Faie – Puspanitapuri by SN

Heyyaaa….another time in Puspanitapuri. I thin, if you want to get married at Puspanitapuri, u can rest assure about it by hiring me hahaha. I think this is my 30th times shooting at this hall. It’s a HUGEEEEE ballroom which photography could be very tricky. Especially on the lighting aspect plus their RED carpet. As for photographers, red has never been their favourite colour. But, if you managed to get rid of it…the pictures will turn AWESOME. Else…it willbe much terrible. As for my works…you see it, you judge it.

Lynn (a lawyer) is now married to Faie (a pilot). I shoot their weddings from the akad nikah to the reception personally by my very own eyes, finger and heart 😉 Family? they are veryyyy happening. You can simply see the last picture. Mother of the bride is one of the most hypers ahhaha. Pantang nampak camera….”Saiful, ambil gambar auntie dgn jiran. Saiful…ambil gambar auntie dengan kawan, Saiful…ambil gambar auntie dengan posmen rumah auntie…”. but…it was fantastic!

Ok for now, if you really want to see more images of their wedding. Kindly add me in my facebook fan club (CLICK IT NOW) here…

Nana & Ali – Temerloh

Last few weeks, I went to Temerloh for a photoshooting. I can’t believe for another 1 time, I shoot at my home state. As the wedding happened in the year end, it was a wet one. I speed-up my car from KL to Temerloh and managed to arrive there in an hour time. So Dinie and I arrived early in order for me to get some roti canai near the bride’s house. I remembered the kedai. It used to be my arwah emak’s favourite shop and pretty much remember the road heading towards the bride’s house. That was the same road, for my late mom’s last trip….alive. Very nostalgic!

Most important in this entry is….pengantin in RED!. Well, red is the hardest colour to blend with others. But, that’s the challenge for me…not a reason for me to excuse. I love challenge. Some people said…“Malu lah nak ambil SN pasal my wedding kat kampung jer…”. Then, who said I can’t shoot kampung’s? Heheheh…I’ve proven I still can shoot kampung now. So for those who will be having your wedding in a kampung, do not hesitate to hire me and CandidSyndrome for your wedding day. It will be loadddsss of fun for sure!.

For Cikgu Nana & Ali…it was a great pleasure working with u guys 😀

Pucuk dicita ulam mendatang

Bersedialah…. 😉

My idols

For so many years, people asked me for so many times about my idols in my career development. For so many times, I can’t really explained why in the first place, I put all of them as my idols. Let me put some thought here as I’m officially 31 year old today, I think I should share who are really inspired me to be here and stay here with all ups and downs.

Here we are…

  1. My parents
  2. Datuk Prof. Dr. Ghauth Jasmon, Ex-President MMU (Now Vice Chancellor, UM)
  3. Datuk Sean Ahmad, Managing Director Lensa Film Sdn Bhd (Ex-Boss)
  4. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr. Lim Kok Wing, Founder Limkokwing University (Ex-boss)

My idols are all the people I know really well. I practically know their move and how smart they are in the real life without any third party information telling me that they are good. It’s a bit funny right? Mostly are my ex-bosses in the idols list. I believe, to be a good boss, one should be a good workers attitude. I can just tell people my idols is Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes, Richard Branson, Warren Buffet, Syed Mokhtar Albukhary and many more. But I didn’t know them in personal basis. Just through reading but never have the experience sitting under their governance.

My parents are the first one. Grew up through all ups and downs together with them taught me so much about perseverance & survival in life. Nothing better than my number 1 idols. Growing up with them and seeing their sacrifices every now and then is enough to make them my number 1 idols. Pushing myself out from the poverty in life and fight so my parents can get a little good life before they die is the priority.

Dr. Ghauth Jasmon, well….looking at his name, a Javanese like me can already detected we are from the same “ship”. For some people may think he’s a mat saleh. He was the one who changed the ITTM (Institut Telekomunikasi & Teknologi Maklumat) became UNITEL then UNITELE, UMMT and finally MMU (Multimedia University). I was there in ITTM after my SPM and underwent an engineering program preparation for UK universities under Telekom Malaysia sponsorship. Dr. Ghauth was the president that replied all emails I sent personally and not going through PA or other 3rd party people. Eventually, after 10 years away from MMU, we meet each other again in University Malaya 50th Anniversary of Library. I was there under the capacity as the judge for their 50th anniversary photography contest. We managed to have a simple talk and he congratulated me for my achievment. I was shocked how the UM Vice-Chancellor could know about it (I stared Dr. Edzan…dalam hati, Ini mesti Dr. Edzan punya kerja). I was so proud when he asked my card, InsyaAllah he wanted to meet me in this few days. I will come and see him in 2010.

It’s funny for most of the people putting their ex-bosses as their idols. But not for me. I would say 80% of the lecturers in Limkokwing during my time there doesnt like Tan Sri Lim. But for me, I’m very positive about what Tan Sri is doing as he is the one who did really worked his ass out to form that University. I believe, he know his organisation more than others. Frequently people said, TAN SRI KEDEKUT!! UNTUNG JUTA-JUTA…GAJI TAK NAIK-NAIK” and many other things like that. Being positive, I put in my heart, Tan Sri deserved to get that as he’s the one who did really worked his ass out for growing-up the University. He deserved to get all the big profits. While other people blame him, I kept in my heart that he’s a good boss. He’s visionaries. The time he got involved so much with Tun Mahathir, people called him “Kaki ampu” but Mahathir wasn’t stupid. He got all the reason why he supported Tan Sri. Good deeds that Tan Sri did has been interpreted badly by the 80% of people, and I was 1 of those in 20% group. Fully supported him for whatever he did eventhough people already told me “kaki kipas”. I just worked whatever he instructed me to do (but I wasn’t a skillfull person that day).

Before I worked with Tan Sri Limkokwing, I worked with Datuk Sean Ahmad, Lensa Film Sdn Bhd. I did my practical there. Nothing much of experience in 3 months practical time. He’s one of my idols in entrepreneurship. He started his business in 1978 without any financial assistance. Totally by passion then moved into one of reputable production house producing million dollars of revenue every year. Again, for some people they doesn’t like him. For some common reason…”KEDEKUT”.

As a boss now, I pretty sure, my staff pretty much talking about all those negative things about me. As an owner of the company, I expect nobody can understand my move. For most of the time, I keep what I plan to do within myself. I did listen to my staff suggestion and proposal. I admit, I decline most of the suggestion based on so many things I can’t explain to them. Not because their suggestion is not good, but under my own judgement, some of it are not suitable to be implemented yet, some are not practical, some doesn’t bring any momentum to the company, some I keep for the future implementation and only some I take for the immediate implementation.

There are words saying “Boss is Always Right” is actually make sense. But boss is NOT always right. Boss is just like others. Boss is the one with the most mistakes in hand. Seriously, in business, nothing come exactly like what has been written in the book. It’s totally a common sense. And the best common sense to be followed is the boss common sense especially if your boss is the founder of your company. Nobody know their baby better than their own mother. That’s why…a founder will be the founder forever. As a staff, I did really positive with all action and policies made by my ex-bosses.

They are my idols. Again, when I was in Limkokwing University as a lecturer, more than 80% of staff doesn’t like Tan Sri, and because of that, I always think, I can never get even 50% of my staff being positive. If they have other choices better, they’ll go. That happened to most of staffs. If you read this and you are a staff, always think like an owner of the company and you’ll be a great staff. be positive to your boss.

I don’t mind if people want to say I’m kipasing my ex-bosses. As for me, I don’t have any interest to kipas them.

A good leader came from a good follower. You will not know the right or wrong of this statement….until you become a boss.

Regards,

.

Afardi & Natalia – Pre-wedding

Ok, as promised…Afardi & Natalia’s prewedding portrait. If you’re Malay, it never been so much emphasize on pre-wedding until 3 years ago after we shoot out own casual portrait of pre-weddings. I did prove to the market that casual pre-wedding is suitable for Malay as well due to many restriction in custom….as you can see a lot of Chinese pre-wedding must normally show those intimate pictures, kissing and much more. It’s not necessary to have kissing images in pre-wedding. We tend to do it casually.

Yes, after we did Gina’s portrait about 3 years ago, and about 5 years ago in Bali we did shoot for casual portrait for Azlan Awadz and later followed by Mad & Dilla, now pre-wedding does look so interesting for the couple to try it. The pictures shown above is my work of arts that can be hired for RM4,600 (original price at RM7400). However, couple can still enjoy this kind of photography with all other photographers in our line-up for as low as RM1117 (only for this month and limited to the first 10). Originally it priced at RM2055.

What does pre-wedding so special? Imagine these images will be printed on your thank you card? your merchandize? your wedding poster? invitation cards? wedding panel display outside of your wedding ballroom? played in the wedding slideshow and much more. So, why should you think you can’t kiss your partner….you can’t have pre-wedding pictures?? Further, pre-wedding is the only time you can have 100% control of what kind of pictures, emotions, composition, color, backgrounds, and much more. While in the wedding, you have to please whatever happen in there. Photographer got no control except follow the flow.

Now you can. It doesnt have to go so far to get these kind of pictures. What you need is ONLY creative photographer that always shoot with PASSION. They’ll do wonder. What you have to do is just….sit back and relax. Enjoy the shooting…seriously, it’s fun.

Let’s shoot your prewedding now!

Rags to Riches 7 – It’s a small world in the end.

Do you still remember when was the last time you withdraw your money from the ATM machine for only RM10? that was the time you rather walk a longer distance in order for you to go to your bank instead of get deducted RM1 for using MEPS service.  Do you still remember the last time you drove your car to the petrol station and refuel it for RM5?

I can still remember all those clearly in my mind. It’s still fresh and warm. Tears drop for sure everytime I remember about those experiences. Yesterday, I was queuing in an ATM to withdraw some money. It happened that a pakcik in front of me took more than 5 minutes just to withdraw the money. I later ask him weather he need a hand or not.

He answered, “Pakcik punya duit tak keluar-keluar ni”. Then I asked him to start again the transaction and I just see it and try to correct if he do any wrong step. He then key-in the numbers, then key in RM10 to withdraw. I asked him again, “Pakcik nak keluarkan RM10 sahaja ke?”.

He answered,…”Yes”. I was about to cry. I saw myself in that Pak Cik 6 years ago. But this Pakcik is already 60++ and he still withdrawing RM10 from an ATM. To continue the story, the ATM can’t withdraw the money for him. Then I checked and tried on behalf of Pakcik. But the first thing I did was a permission to check-out the balance. Pakcik said yes and I found that he only have RM9++ in his account.

SN : Pakcik….(sigh) “duit tak cukup…ada RM9 sahaja”.

I didn’t talk much. I took out money from my account and I gave Pakcik 2 notes (I better not to let u know the color). The Pakcik was speechless. In my heart, I know this Pakcik is genuine. Sometime we may think that would be a scam. Old people buy your heart with sympathy.

The time I walked out from the mart, the Pakcik waited near to my car. The time I arrived at my car, I smiled to him.

SN : Tak balik lagi Pakcik?

Pakcik : Belum lagi, tunggu kawan tadi basuh kereta. Lepas ni dia nak datang ambil.

SN : Ooo…nak saya tumpangkan ke? Pakcik stay kat mana?

Pakcik : Tuuuu depan tuuu….(tunjuk arah Bukit Jalil Golf Resort). Lagi satu nak…

SN : (saya potong)…jom lah ikut saya naik. Rumah saya pun dekat Bukit Jalil sahaja (dalam hati, mungkin dia tunjuk area Klang Lama kot, kalau Bkt Jalil direction yang dia point are all bungalows)

Pakcik : (Hulurkan 2 notes yang saya berikan tadi) Anak…Pakcik bukan tak ada duit sebenarnya. Pakcik ni dari kecik Dyslexia. Pakcik dah tua-tua macam ni pun banyak hilang focus kalau kena menulis, baca atau mengira. Tadi tu ATM card zaman bila pun Pakcik dah lupa, cuma cuba korek-korek sahaja nak keluarkan RM10 pasal kawan pakcik basuh kereta kat sana (muncungkan mulut ke arah car wash station minyak…ada beberapa buah kereta) pakcik pulak memang jarang pun bawak cash banyak. Dah selalu sangat kena samun heheheh tu yang kadang-kadang dalam poket takde langsung duit. Selalu kawan yg bawak kereta yang pegang duit. Itupun satu hal, kalau nak mengira duit nak bayar apa-apa pun yg tu pakcik pun terkial-kial juga heheheh. Tiba-tiba harini macam nak cuba keluarkanRM10 ingatkan nak buat beli gula-gula untuk cucu kat rumah.

SN : Oooo patut lah. Saya minta maaf sangat (patutlah pin number lekat di kad ATM).

Pakcik : Anak tau Dyslexia tu apa ke?

SN : Nama saya Saiful, Pakcik.

Pakcik : Bagus lah tu Saiful.

SN : Orang Dylexia pun boleh Berjaya kan Pakcik? Macam Albert Einstein, Tom Cruise, Tan Sri this, Datuk Seri That, dan juga yang duduk dekat-dekat sini pun ada namanya Datuk Sharif (bukan nama sebenar). Dengar dia tawkey besar perkapalan.

Macam Datuk Sharif yg Saiful cakap tadi. Umur 13 tahun dah berhenti sekolah kumpul besi buruk naik basikal roda tiga.

SN : Pakcik kenal ke Datuk Sharif….? (excited)

Pakcik : (senyap….tarik nafas panjang) dia mula dulu teruk. Perlahan-lahan dia bangkit.

Pakcik : Bla  bla bla bla…yada yada yada….

SN : Pakcik banyak tahu pasal Datuk Sharif ye…Saya cuma tahu pasal dia di kelab komuniti tempat saya tinggal, selalu orang mention nama dia. Lagipun, dari rumah saya boleh nampak rumah bungalow dia dekat Bukit Jalil Golf…tapi nampak bumbung sahaja lah.

Pakcik : (senyum…..) Ok Saiful, terima kasih kerana melayan Pakcik dengan baik sampai sanggup tolong Pakcik macam tu sekali. Pakcik tahu Saiful ikhlas sampai nak pelawa tolong hantar balik rumah. Kawan pakcik dah siap basuh kereta tu.

SN : Takde apa lah pakcik.

SN : (terkedu)….datuk??

Pakcik : (Masuk ke kereta dan senyum)… Kalau dah selalu tengok bumbung rumah Pakcik tu, rajin-rajinlah singgah ye.

SN : (Lagiiii terkedu)

This is a fresh story about Datuk Sharif (Again…not his real name for some privacy reason) i met just now. A very humble Pakcik stayed near to my house now. Never prejudice to the people, no matter who they are. His stories are really inspiring me to groom more dyslexia kids to develop a better themselves in the future.

This story teaches me, not to give-up eventhough we have so much imperfection within ourselves. In the end, nobody is perfect. I drove away from that Petrol Station without his phone number, but pretty sure where his house is located.

After all, I still remember the last time I withdraw RM10 from an ATM was to buy a few days’ lunch & dinner with average cost at RM1.50 per meal. Twice a day. That was the time, I started my photography career, in a Kasim Selamat’s house (Rumah kolong) back in 2004 in Selayang Baru.

Now, I wish I would never ever forget my root and my past.

Because that’s the best lesson for me….

And for others….
